Galactic Star Union Timeline
For 314 years, the Galactic Star Union (GSU) has stood as one of the galaxy's foremost interstellar civilizations. Founded on July 4, 2176, the Union grew from an unprecedented alliance of six founding worlds into a thriving multispecies federation united by the principles of liberty, justice, scientific discovery, peaceful exploration, and mutual defense. Through centuries of expansion, diplomacy, war, and reconstruction, it has remained committed to its founding belief that diverse civilizations are stronger together than apart.
2176 – Founding of the Galactic Star Union
July 4, 2176 — The Union is Born
The Galactic Star Union was officially established on July 4, 2176, replacing the United Earth Space Program (UESP) as humanity's primary interstellar governing and exploratory organization.
For decades, the UESP had led humanity's expansion into nearby star systems, established permanent interstellar colonies, and forged the first lasting diplomatic relationships with neighboring civilizations. As contact between species increased, it became increasingly clear that exploration, commerce, scientific cooperation, and collective security required a permanent interstellar government rather than a loose network of treaties and independent alliances.
Following years of diplomacy, six civilizations agreed to become the Founding Members of the Galactic Star Union:
Earth
Mohtaan Prime
He'neta Prime
Sythera
Tsiowa
Korvath
Together they ratified the Constitution of the Galactic Star Union, establishing a federal interstellar government founded upon representative government, shared sovereignty, individual liberty, mutual defense, peaceful exploration, scientific advancement, free commerce, and the protection of the rights and dignity of every member civilization.
The founding governments recognized that none of their civilizations could safely face the future alone. Growing interstellar commerce, expanding exploration, emerging external threats, and increasingly frequent contact between cultures demanded institutions capable of resolving disputes peacefully, coordinating collective defense, promoting scientific cooperation, protecting commerce, and ensuring that newly discovered worlds would become opportunities for cooperation rather than conflict.
Although each founding civilization entered the Union as an equal partner, Earth played the decisive diplomatic role in bringing the alliance together. Human diplomats spent years negotiating agreements, resolving political disputes, overcoming cultural misunderstandings, and demonstrating that lasting cooperation between vastly different civilizations was not only possible but beneficial to all.
In recognition of Earth's extraordinary diplomatic leadership, the founding members unanimously selected New Geneva, Switzerland, Earth, as the permanent capital of the Galactic Star Union. Long associated with diplomacy, neutrality, and international cooperation, New Geneva became home to the Union Assembly, the Office of the President, the Supreme Judicial Council, Galactic Star Command Headquarters, the Admiralty, and the Union's principal diplomatic institutions.
2177–2260 – The Era of Foundation
The young Union organized its federal government, adopted a common legal code, standardized Union citizenship, created unified trade regulations, and formally established Galactic Star Command (GSC) as the Union's unified military, exploratory, scientific, and humanitarian service.
During this period, dozens of neighboring worlds voluntarily sought membership, laying the foundation for what would become one of the largest interstellar federations in known space.
2260–2360 – The Great Expansion
The Union experienced a century of unprecedented growth. Hundreds of colonies were founded across explored space, scientific discoveries accelerated, peaceful first-contact missions expanded the Union's understanding of the galaxy, and numerous civilizations voluntarily joined the Galactic Star Union.
2360–2481 – The Frontier Era
As Union borders expanded, attention shifted toward the frontier. Galactic Star Command charted unexplored regions, protected colonial settlements, suppressed piracy, responded to humanitarian disasters, and established diplomatic relations with newly encountered civilizations.
Legendary vessels—including the USS Coral Sea (GSC-4143)—earned distinguished reputations through exploration, rescue operations, scientific expeditions, and frontier defense.
2476 – Founding of Keep Union Great
Keep Union Great (KUG) was founded as a patriotic civic and political organization dedicated to promoting Union unity, civic responsibility, public service, preparedness, and confidence in the institutions of the Galactic Star Union.
During its early years, KUG presented itself as a mainstream pro-Union movement emphasizing strong communities, support for veterans and Star Command personnel, responsible citizenship, and the preservation of Union values. Over time, elements within its leadership gradually steered the organization toward an increasingly human-priority political philosophy, advocating that humans should remain the primary political and cultural stewards of the Galactic Star Union.
2482–2485 – The KFD War
In 2482, the Galactic Star Union was invaded by the Nótâxeo'o, a savage warrior civilization whose expansionist ambitions ignited the largest conflict in Union history.
The Nótâxeo'o were a formidable bipedal species possessing both reptilian and feline characteristics, combining tremendous physical strength, predatory reflexes, exceptional agility, and remarkable battlefield endurance. Native to a harsh, high-gravity world, their civilization was built upon conquest, martial honor, and the belief that strength alone granted the right to rule. Diplomacy was viewed only as another weapon of war, while civilizations unwilling to fight were considered destined for domination.
For three years the Union fought for its survival. Galactic Star Command conducted:
Massive fleet engagements
Planetary liberation campaigns
Marine Corps Combat Cadre operations
Humanitarian evacuations
Scientific innovation
Engineering breakthroughs
Intelligence operations
Deep-space strategic offensives
The conflict forged an entire generation of legendary officers, Marines, physicians, engineers, scientists, and diplomats whose service ultimately preserved the Union.
2484–2485 – Operation: Olympus
By early 2484, Galactic Star Command determined that the KFD War had entered its decisive phase and began planning Operation: Olympus, the largest military undertaking ever attempted by the Galactic Star Union.
The operation assembled hundreds of starships, thousands of Marines, engineering and medical task forces, scientific specialists, intelligence assets, and logistical support commands into the greatest combined military force in Union history.
As preparations for the Velon Prime Campaign began, Captain Alexander Matthew Hawkins was granted a temporary battlefield promotion to Fleet Captain. In recognition of his extraordinary leadership during the first two years of the KFD War, Galactic Star Command entrusted him with leading the campaign—a critical offensive designed to locate, pursue, and destroy key Nótâxeo'o command elements operating throughout the Velon Prime system.
Fleet Captain Hawkins' calm leadership, innovative tactical planning, and exceptional ability to coordinate Fleet, Marine Corps Combat Cadre, engineering, medical, scientific, and intelligence assets resulted in a decisive Union victory. The successful liberation of Velon Prime dealt a devastating blow to the Nótâxeo'o command structure and established the strategic foundation upon which Operation: Olympus would be built. In recognition of his outstanding performance, Hawkins' promotion to Fleet Captain was made permanent.
As Operation: Olympus was set in motion, Hawkins' distinguished combat record and successful leadership during the Velon Prime Campaign earned him a second temporary battlefield promotion, this time to Commodore. He was entrusted with command of the Velon Prime Battle Group, one of the largest fleet formations ever assembled by Galactic Star Command and a principal striking force of the Union's final offensive against the Nótâxeo'o.
Under Commodore Hawkins' leadership, the Velon Prime Battle Group spearheaded major fleet operations throughout Operation: Olympus, playing a decisive role in breaking the Nótâxeo'o war machine and securing victory for the Galactic Star Union. His ability to command an operation of unprecedented scale firmly established him as one of Galactic Star Command's premier operational commanders.
Following the successful conclusion of Operation: Olympus and the end of the KFD War in 2485, Hawkins' promotion to Commodore was made permanent, and he was appointed Assistant Chief of Fleet Operations, becoming one of the youngest officers ever selected for one of Galactic Star Command's senior operational leadership positions.
Operation: Olympus secured the Union's victory and brought an end to the KFD War, preserving the independence of the Galactic Star Union and defeating the Nótâxeo'o invasion. However, it also witnessed the widespread deployment of advanced inhibitor technologies whose unforeseen biological consequences would ultimately give rise to the Harmonic Generation, shaping the next era in Union history.
2485–2487 – Reconstruction
Following the defeat of the Nótâxeo'o, the Galactic Star Union entered one of the largest reconstruction efforts in its history. Entire worlds devastated by the war were rebuilt, displaced populations returned home, veterans transitioned back into civilian life, and Galactic Star Command gradually shifted from wartime operations to its peacetime missions of exploration, diplomacy, humanitarian assistance, scientific discovery, and frontier security.
The postwar period also saw Keep Union Great (KUG) expand rapidly in both membership and political influence. Originally founded in 2476 as a patriotic civic organization, KUG increasingly attracted citizens seeking stability, security, and stronger political leadership in the uncertain years following the war.
2487 – Founding of the Union Vigilance Alliance
Two years after the end of the KFD War, Victor Alarcón founded the Union Vigilance Alliance (UVA). Initially established to investigate unexplained postwar developments and encourage greater governmental transparency, the organization gradually shifted its attention toward studying and monitoring the emerging Harmonic Generation, believing its long-term implications had not been adequately addressed by Union authorities.
2488 – The Harmonic Generation Emerges
Children born to veterans exposed to inhibitor technologies during the final stages of the KFD War began displaying unusual developmental characteristics unlike any previously documented in Galactic Star Union medical history.
Among the earliest known cases were the twins:
Robert Eugene "Bob" Hawkins
Barbara Jeanette "Barb" Hawkins
Initially believed to represent isolated medical anomalies, the twins would later become recognized as among the first documented members of what came to be known throughout the Union as the Harmonic Generation.
2490 – Present Day
By 2490, the Galactic Star Union has existed for 314 years.
Now encompassing hundreds of member worlds and representing one of the most prosperous and technologically advanced civilizations in known space, the Union faces one of the greatest challenges in its history. The emergence of the Harmonic Generation, the lingering consequences of the KFD War, and growing political divisions represented by organizations such as the Union Vigilance Alliance and the increasingly influential Keep Union Great movement are testing the ideals upon which the Union was founded.
Even amid these challenges, Galactic Star Command continues to defend the Union, explore the frontier, deliver humanitarian assistance, and uphold the vision established on July 4, 2176—that peace, liberty, justice, and discovery are best secured when diverse civilizations stand together.
